Rock Creek fall to McLouth in Regional Semi-finals

The mustangs fell 3-4 to McLouth on Tuesday to end the season at 12-10.  The mustangs fell behind early as McLouth scored 3 in the bottom of the first off 2 singles and a homerun.  McLouth was held to 4 hits in the game.  The mustangs stranded 8 runners in the game, but were able to score two in the fifth and then again in the seventh.  Bailey Elliott and Caitlyn Larson each singled and doubled in the game. Mustangs Perfect to begin Regional Play

Pitchers Taylor Ebert and Katie Hodges were perfect from the mound against Doniphan County on Monday night – only nine batters in 3 innings of play, no one reaching base.  Ebert struck out 4 and Hodges 2, as the mustangs advance with a 18-0 win behind 14 hits.

“We established the tone of the game early, scoring 14 runs in the first inning.  We added another 4 in the bottom of the second.  Everyone on our roster got a chance to contribute.  We need to be as confident as possible as we head into tomorrow’s games.  In order to do what we feel like we set out to do, we will have to play solid, fundamental softball.” Read more


Mustangs Finish Regular Season on Positive Note

On Tuesday, May 11, the rock creek softball team traveled to Rossville to wind down the regular season and final games of MEL play with 2 big wins 9-4 and 11-3.

In game one of the double header with Rossville, the mustangs combined for 12 hits including doubles from Megan Srna, Bailey Elliott and Ashley Srna and a triple from Taylor Ebert. Taylor Ebert went 3-4 in the game. Becca Snapp 2-4, Ashley Srna 2-4 and Megan Srna 2-5.  Lauren Overkamp and Caitline’ Christenson each added singles.  Megan Srna had 4 RBI’s in the game.  Taylor Ebert earned the win from the mound, striking out 3. Mustangs Drop Doubleheader to Silver Lake

The mustangs fell short of avenging their 2009 state championship loss to Silver Lake, as it was all Silver Lake in the MEL bout on Friday night.  In the first game, Silver Lake pounded the ball and Rock Creek had no answer.  The score was 1-11.  The mustangs had 4 hits, a double from Jana Havens, and singles from Ashley Srna, Katie Hodges and Megan Srna.  Taylor Ebert struck out 5, and falls to 5-4 on the season. Mustangs Finish JV Season with 2 Wins

The game was 1-0 in favor of the mustangs through the first 4 innings. In the top of the fifth, Alma scored two to take the lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Ashley McDaris belted out a 2 run triple down the left field line to score two, she would score as Lauren Leupold would follow with an RBI single.  The mustangs won 7-6. They combined for 8 hits in the first game.  Alisha Banta had an RBI double in the 7th.  McDaris went 3-4 from the plate with 3 RBI’s.  Codi Ebert and Shiann Bruce each singled in the game.  Lauren Leupold earned the win from the mound, giving up 3 free passes and striking out 5. Mustangs Split with Chargers

In games played in Alma on May 4, the mustangs fell behind in the opening game 3-0 in the bottom of the first, and could not recover.  The final score was 2-4 in favor of the chargers. The mustangs notched half a dozen singles, but couldn’t generate much offensively until the top of the 7th, but then were denied by a bases loaded double play by the Charger defense.  Taylor Ebert gave up 7 hits in the game,4 occurring consecutively in the bottom of the first. 11th Annual Mustang Softball Clinic

The 11th annual Mustang Softball clinic was held last Saturday at St. George for softball and in Westmoreland for baseball. The event had over 90 area youth involved in the 1 day instructional camp. Baseball players and softball players combined from the Rock Creek teams to provide the clinic. The high school players did a great job.

Rock Creek JV defeats Chapman

18-2 and 19-1 were the most recent scores of the Rock Creek JV squad as they defeated Chapman in games played April 30.

14 hits and only 1 strike out were offensive highlights in the opener. Paige Miller went 3-3 to lead all hitters.  Lauren Leupold 2-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s. Jackie Gonzalez, Ashley McDaris, and Breanna Stillwagon each doubled. Shauna Quinn & Alisha Banta singled.  Shiann Bruce had 2 singles, 3 RBI’s and 2 stolen bases. The mustangs only committed 1 error in the contest. Read more

Rock Creek Splits with Osage City

3-8 and 5-4 (8) were the scores of the two games played on Thursday night in make up games played at St. George against Osage City.In the top of the first inning, the Indians established the tone for the game getting three runs off of 3 hits and an error to take an early lead that the Mustangs couldn’t ever regain. Carley Spicer (Osage City’s pitcher) led her team to a state appearance last year and pitches with confidence. Read more



Rock Creek Drops to 1-3 in MEL Play

Not since 2002 has Rock Creek been swept by Riley County – but that’s just what happened in games on Tuesday. Dropping the opening game 1-2 and the 2nd 5-7, the mustangs are now 1-3 in MEL play with a tough schedule still remaining. “Credit to Riley County for challenging us for an entire 2 games. Our lifelessness and casual attitude and play, combined with the aggressiveness of Riley were our nemesis. We absolutely let two games get away and can only look within our team to find the answer as to WHY…” Read more

JV Squad Splits with Abilene

On Monday, April 26 at St. George, the mustang softball JV team was in action against the Abilene cowgirls.  The mustangs won the first game 8-6 and fell in the second 13-2.  The mustangs had 5 hits in the opener, including 2 doubles with 4 RBI’s from freshman Lauren Leupold.  Caitline’ Christenson, Samantha Taylor and Kynedee Hodges rounded out the offense with their singles.  Shiann Bruce and Caitline’ Christenson each added 2 stolen bases.   The mustangs and cowgirls were tied at 6 runs each going into the bottom of the sixth, RC added two with one of Leupold’s 2 RBI doubles and held on the defensive half of the 7th to earn the win.  Caitline’ Christenson pitched for the win, improving to 3-0 on the year. Rock Creek Softball Hosts JV Triangular

On Saturday, the Rock Creek mustangs hosted Royal Valley & Manhattan High freshman for a set of 3 softball games.

In the first game, Rock Creek fell to Royal Valley by a score of 10-15.  Kerri Briggs was 2-2 in the game.  Lauren Leupold was 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI’s.  The mustangs combined for 12 hits in the game, but could not put them together to manufacture runs.  Codi Ebert, Jackie Gonzalez, Breanna Stillwagon, Shiann Bruce, Ashley McDaris and Sam Taylor each singled in the game.  Lauren Leupold took the loss from the mound, striking out 4 and walking 3. Mustang defense committed 8 errors. Read more

Mustangs Split MEL Opener with St. Marys

Rock Creek took the first game 2-0, and dropped the second game 1-4 against the defending 2A state champion Bears in a Tuesday night double header. “You just can’t afford to play flat against a team like St. Marys. We did some things defensively to keep the games within reach, but we also allowed singles to turn into doubles for them, and were inconsistent and lifeless at the plate.” In the win, the mustangs were led by Katie Hodges who went 2-3 in the contest. Rock Creek 6-2 on the Year

On Tuesday, April 13, the RC Mustang softball team traveled to Clay Center for a double header, dropping the first in a 6-7 loss, and winning the second game 7-2.  The mustangs scored early in the first game with a walk to Ashley Srna to give the mustangs their first runner of the game. With two outs in that inning, first baseman Becca Snapp drilled a ball about 230’ over the fence to give the mustangs 2 runs.  The mustangs added two more runs in the 4th via consecutive hits from Bailey Elliott and Lauren Overkamp, followed by a double from Megan Srna.  The Tigers of Clay Center continued to hit the ball and took the lead in the bottom of the 6th, 6-4.  In the top of the 7th, Megan Srna singled, followed by a fielders choice from Caitlyn Larson, Taylor Ebert smacked a ball over the right center field fence to tie the game 6-6 heading into the final ½ inning of play.  The mustangs had their chances to win or push extra innings but could not extend the game. JV Team Opens 2-0 with Clay Center

The mustang JV team won 7-6 and 11-6 in their season debut at St. George. The mustangs were host to the Clay Center Tigers. In the first game, the mustangs were led by freshman Megan Srna who notched 2 triples and a single to go 3-3 on the outing with 4 runs scored. Codi Ebert also belted out a double. Paige Miller and Jackie Gonzalez each added a single. The mustangs had solid defense in the outing, including a double play from 3rd baseman freshman Breanna Stillwagon, caught a deep foul ball and then gunned it to Jackie Gonzalez at first to pick off the errant runner. Lauren Leupold notched the win from the mound, while striking out 6 and allowing 9 hits.

Rock Creek sweeps Southeast of Saline, improves to 5-1

In a double header in Gypsum, the Mustangs won by scores of 5-0 and 11-0. Although the mustangs only managed 5 runs, they combined for 10 hits in the first game, 2 singles each from Bailey Elliott, Katie Hodges and Caitlyn Larson. Taylor Ebert, Becca Snapp, Lauren Overkamp and Caitline’ Christenson each singled. Elliott and Hodges each had 2 RBI’s. Read more

Mustangs Split with Abilene

Rock Creek softball won the first of a pair of games with Abilene on Tuesday night, 5-1, and then battled in the nightcap falling 5-9 in 8 innings.  Abilene (22-4 last year, 4th in class 4A) was a formidable opponent for the mustangs.

In the first game, the mustangs took the early lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning when sophomore Katie Hodges belted a 2 out triple followed by 3 consecutive walks by Abilene’s sophomore pitcher Alise Murray.  2 runs would score on passed balls. Read more

Mustangs Start 2010 Season

Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning in the home opener against Wamego was not the way the mustangs had envisioned starting their season. Assisted by a couple errors and Caitlyn Larson’s timely triple, the mustangs were able to manufacture 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th to cut the lead to 3-5 heading into the bottom of the 6th.  With 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th the mustangs scored 5 started with a walk to Jessi Snapp, another (of a 3-3 outing) single from Larson, a 2 RBI double by Ashley Srna, another walk to Katie Hodges and a 2 RBI triple off the fence from Taylor Ebert.
